We handmake our jewellery to be worn and love the fact that we build jewellery in a robust nature to be able to be worn in daily life, to keep your loved ones close to you. However, there are things that you can do to keep your memorial jewellery stay looking fabulous.
We often are asked can I ware my ring or necklace in the shower, and the general rule is yes! Precious metals like silver and gold are not affected by warm or cold water. If you have cremation ash in glass or sealed inside the metal then the ash is perfectly safe and secure. We do recommend removing for swimming as there are chemicals in the water that shouldn't harm the jewellery but just in case.
If the silver starts turning a dark colour, don't panic that is easily fixed. The black that can occur with sterling silver is a natural oxidation caused by a reaction with the alloys that make up the silver and oxygen. Extreme discolouring can be the same alloys reacting to other substances like the chemicals in perfumes, moisturisers, natural oils in your skin. Your silver is not damaged its just a layer of oxidation which can be removed with a polish cloth. When your items are delivered to you there is a Talk Town Polishing cloth in the pack, give the silver a wipe with this and it will instantly remove the dark film. Gold doesn't tend to tarnish but it can look dull over time, again a wipe with a gold polish cloth will return it to its natural shine once more. For engraved jewellery you should not over polish these as that will eventually remove the engraving marks, if you have one an ultrasonic bath is a great way to remove dirt particles.
Dents and stretches are part of your jewellery's life with you. If they are unsightly or cause an issue then all jewellers can polish them out. We offer a cleaning service so you are welcome to send your cremation ash jewellery back to us for a clean and touch up.
Any repairs needed please return them to us or get a professional goldsmith jeweller to look at the repair (any jewellery sent to another jeweller for repair will void any warranty with the original maker, so please try the original maker first) please never attempt to fix the jewellery yourself with a soldering iron, glue etc - we have seen all types of failed attempts in the past and they usually make the simple initial repair more difficult to rectify.
Above all enjoy wearing your memorial jewellery, the more you wear it the more love that ours into it which is the best care any item of jewellery can ask for,
Victoria
